The recent windy weather gave us a timely reminder of just how important good docklines are.
Over a couple of particularly windy days, we found ourselves re-tying and adjusting a number of boats that were hitting the dock or moving far more than they should have been.
The biggest issue? Undersized docklines. We’d estimate that over 50% of the boats in Martha Cove are currently using lines that are either too small, too old, or not set up correctly for the conditions.
Good quality, correctly sized docklines combined with properly adjusted spring lines can make a huge difference to how your boat behaves in strong winds and rough conditions

Next time you’re down at the marina, take a few minutes to inspect your lines. If they’re showing signs of wear, stiffness, chafe or are simply too light for your boat, it may be time for an upgrade.
If you’re unsure whether your docklines are up to the job, feel free to reach out to the Inspire Marine team. We can assess your current setup and, if required, supply custom made docklines sized specifically for your vessel and berth. Your boat and your neighbours will thank you for it.
