Having grown up on the West Coast of Scotland windsurfing, dinghy sailing and working in his local boatyard, Andy was invited by visiting American yacht owners to expand his horizons. He soon headed to Newport USA, where he joined the famous classic racing yacht Ticonderoga, and went on to sail the East Coast USA and Caribbean aboard this and several other great classics.
After becoming Captain of Windigo, a renowned 72 foot Sparkman & Stephens yawl in Maine, Andy brought the yacht to the Mediterranean, where she earned a reputation as a competitive regatta yacht, before transferring to a new Italian owner. Between summer cruising and regattas, over 17 years running Windigo, Andy oversaw extensive refits and restoration, giving him rich experience in master craftsmanship and complex project management.
From total hull re-planking, to intricate carpentry, varnish, rigging, systems and engineering, Andy’s deep practical knowledge, coupled with years of racing and cruising, makes him an invaluable asset to Inspire Marine and its clients.
Now based in Safety Beach, Andy leads Inspire Marine’s Maintenance Division, where his passion for yacht care and restoration ensures every vessel is kept in peak condition. In his spare time, Andy enjoys wing-foiling and racing with Mornington and Safety Beach yacht clubs.
